Foxfire Teas February 2008 Newsletter
Happy February My Tea Drinking Friends:
It actually smelled like spring the other day and it got me really excited about so many things: fly fishing, gardening (especially the vegetable garden), golfing, breakfast and tea on the front porch, watching the flowers pop through the soil, buds on the trees, baseball season, and most importantly the sun. It feels so good to feel the sun this time of year. Now I know that spring is not here, but I sure like thinking about it. Maybe if we all think really positive about spring coming early, it might actually come true. Who knows if it will work, but I think it is worth a try.
Tea Documentary at the Hollywood Theatre This Weekend!
We are very excited about this movie coming to Portland. It is a movie about TEA!!! Katherine and I had a chance to see this movie at the Olympia Film Festival in early November with a good friend of ours. We all enjoyed it very much and I think you will too. The coolest thing about it showing in Portland is that we will be doing a complimentary Chinese tea tasting in between the showings on Saturday and Sunday. Oh, and did I mention that Hollywood Theatre has the best popcorn ever. No joke. It really is the best popcorn ever. Below is a little bit about the movie.
Co-director Gina Leibrecht in attendance for Saturday shows!
ALL IN THIS TEA
All In This Tea is the new documentary that follows world-renowned American tea importer, David Lee Hoffman, to some of the most remote regions of China in search of the finest handmade teas in the world.
Not since Robert Fortune clandestinely made his way through the tea growing districts of China in 1843 to steal plants and seeds for the British Empire has a westerner attempted to gain such access to the hidden world of Chinese tea. As the Chinese increasingly open their doors to the global marketplace, Hoffman attempts, with mixed results, to bypass local governmental agencies and go straight to the farmers for the finest quality leaves. Part travelogue, part adventure film, All in this Tea is a wonderful introduction to one of the world's most historically important commodities.
In English and Chinese with English subtitles. 70 minutes. Not Rated. Showing Saturday and Sunday at 1:00pm & 3:00pm.
Special Chinese tea tastings between each show on Saturday and Sunday compliments of Foxfire Teas.

Emerald Harvest Extra Virgin Organic Tea Seed Oil
You read that right, Tea Seed Oil. Pretty cool, eh. This oil is really good. I made Darjeeling Fried Rice with Pork Tenderloin the other night and I am still thinking about it. I used the tea seed oil as the main oil and it worked perfectly. If you haven't stopped by the store to get a bottle yet, I urge you to come by and check it out. I don't believe you can get it anywhere else in Portland. I will post the recipe on our blog in the next few days.
Tea seed oil (also known as camellia oil) is an edible, pale amber-green fixed oil with a sweet, herbal aroma. It is cold-pressed mainly from the seeds of Camellia oleifera but also from Camellia sinensis or Camellia japonica. Camellia Oleifera and Sinensis are close cousins in the Camellia plant family, and it is therefore no surprise that tea seed oil boasts several of the wonderful nutritional health benefits of drinking tea.
Why should I use Tea Seed Oil?
Tea Seed Oil has an extremely high smoke point (252 °C, 486 °F), as compared to other oils. It has no trans fats or cholesterol and it is very high in good fat and very low in bad fat. Plus, Tea Seed Oil is packed with beneficial nutrients such as: Vitamin E, Omega-6 essential fatty acids and Omega-9 fatty acids.
Cheers!
